Honda Repair: Automatic Transmission, automatic transmission fluid, change good luck

Question
Thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my question. I have a 1992 Honda Accord LX Automatic transmission. Just yesterday, I experienced a problem with it. I was driving normal, then came to a stop. When I started out again, the car accelerated through first gear, then when it tried to shift to second gear, it just revved up very high and then slowly engaged in second gear. Now, every time I go to start out, the car shakes harshly when I first get going, and on every gear, it revs up and then engages several seconds later, or it never engages at all. I am having to shift from 1, to 2, then to D3 and D4, and even that doesnt help much. Also, when it is cold or has had the engine turned off and then on agian, it works a little better for a minute or two. Another weird thing is that if I mash the gas pedal, it performs perfectly, but only if I do so from a stop. I have checked the automatic transmission fluid level, which I just had swapped out about 6 months ago, and bought a formula from pep boys that claims to stop slippage, and it didnt do jack. I find it wierd that it was perfect, then all of a sudden it is all screwed up. I have disconnected the battery cable in an attempt to clear the computer, and that didnt do anything either. What can I do to fix the problem, and how much do you think that it will cost? I am very low on cash, like us all, can I do it myself? Thanks...

Answer
Kevin,
Sorry to say but your trans sounds like it has seen better days. Ant the pep boys stuff that you put in it probally made it worse. NEVER use that junk. I have seen those products do more damage.
The only chance you have for saving this trans is to buy HONDA fluid. Change the fluid, run it for several minutes thru the gears, then drain it out and fill it up again. If you are lucky you will have fixed it. If not then you will need a new trans. There are no adjustments on that trans. You will need 5 bottles of trans fluid. (2.5 each change)
Good luck and keep your fingers crossed.
