Hi Gene,
Thanks for the advice. It was very helpful. My new question now is that when converting from r12 to r134, does my condensor need to be drained out, vacumed and refill with oil? Will converting to r134 affect the performance of my condensor or other possible components? I'm looking forward to hear from you. Thanks again!

Henry,
Good question. Very good question. Here are my thoughts.
Go with the retro-fit to R134. There will be a slight difference in cooling but to be honest you probally will not even notice the difference.
R12 is bad for the enviorment, very costly, and getting harder and harder to come across. Stick with the times and do the conversion.
Good luck!

Answer
Henry,
When converting to R134, the system is evacuated. All the R12 gets removed. The system is put in a vaccum for around 15 minutes with a vaccum pump. At that time you will need to add the R134 oil. The conversion kit should come with the oil. (get the Honda kit) You then pour the oil in. I usually open a line and pour it in. Then the system is evacuated and charged with the R134. (after you screw on the new adaptors.)
I would have a shop do it. They have the right equipment to do it.
The performance of the components should not be affected.
Good luck,
Gene
