Hyundai Repair: 2001 hyundai XG300 dashlights problem, 2001 hyundai xg300, hyundai xg300

Question
I am about to buy a hyundai XG300 2001 year and the current ownwer told me that the dashligths  are not working. I am wondering if is it a serious problem or is it a power train problem or engine problem because i have noticed that many ownwers had have or have the same problem with this car.
This car is manufactured for canada and USA and the engine size is v6 3.0l DOHC.
Thanks

Answer
Hi, Kally.  This problem has nothing to do with the engine or transmission, but in the sense that it's important for drivers to be able to read their gauges at nighttime, I'd still say it's a serious problem.  The amount of work required to find and repair the issue is hard to say as it could be just about anywhere in the wiring of the car.  I'll give you a few tips below for checking some of the simpler things.

Check the parking/tail lamps on the left side of the vehicle.  They are controlled by the same fuse as the dash lamps.  If they operate normally, the problem is most certainly with the rheostat (dimmer switch).  If they also do not illuminate, it's likely that the left tail lamp fuse is blown.  This of course leads to the bigger question of why the fuse blew in the first place and how difficult it will be to find the cause.
