Hyundai Repair: 2004 Radio removal, cassett player, aftermarket radio

Question
I gave my 04 Sonata to my daughter and true to form she has managed to break the cassett player and now says the CD doesn't work.  How do I go about removing this radio?  What are best options to repair or replace?

Answer
Hi, Joe.  Don't be too hard on your daughter.  These weren't the most reliable units, even when they were new.  Most radio repair facilities have difficulty repairing them, and the price often is excessive compared to the price of a new aftermarket unit.

To remove/replace the radio, simply pry out the trim piece in the center of the dash.  Since you'll be replacing the radio, I'd recommend prying between the radio and trim bezel.  This will hopefully avoid damaging the dash.  As the bezel comes out, you should be able to grab and pull it loose from the rest of the clips.  Unplug the connectors and place the bezel to the side.  Next, simply remove the mounting screws for the radio, remove the radio and disconnect the connectors.

If you're installing an aftermarket radio, you may wish to visit a site such as crutchfield.com to get connectors and hardware.
