Hyundai Repair: Hyundai Tiburon GT Hesitation, fuel pressure gauge, mass air sensor

Question
I have an 03' Tiburon GT.I have had the car for 17,ooo miles with no problems, then not too long ago my engine was acting funny. While in park and driving the car would bog at 3000 rpms, and while driving it would shake if you pushed gas too hard. It hesitates and in some cases if u put the accelerator on the floor it will go up to 3000rpms and then drop slowly and wouldnt go any higher. I changed the plugs twice and cleaned the cold air filter and today cleaned the Mass Air Sensor and then plugged it in with no help.It did throw an engine code however, code P1607 that says Air Sensor/Fuel sensor, if i remember correctly. Is it possible i need a new coil essembly for ignition and new wires? I change the oil regurly and keep up with it otherwise but dont know what to do here.

Answer
Hi, Tyce.  The trouble code you've given, P1607, isn't a code that's used on the 2003 Tiburon.  I suspect you've misread the trouble code or that the code reader you used doesn't communicate properly with the engine control module (ECM).

Nonetheless, based on your symptoms, I'd primarily suspect low fuel pressure.  It'd be my recommendation to install a fuel pressure gauge and check to see whether the pressure is at specification (44 PSI).  If the pressure is low enough to create your issue, it won't be anywhere near the spec.

Also, if you determine the correct trouble code, do follow up with it, as it may provide more information about potential sources of the problem.
