Hyundai Repair: brake lights/stop lamp, hyundai accent, warranty service

Question
My brake lights & the center "stop lamp" all stopped working on my 2008 Hyundai  Accent.  Changing the fuse did not help.  Do I need to take the car to the dealer or a mechanic or is this a matter of figuring out how to change a bulb? (but all 3 went simultaneously)  Thank you.

Answer
Hi, Heather.  Most likely, the brake lamp switch has failed.  This is a common issue with the switch used on your car.  It's very rare for five bulbs to have all failed at the same time.

If you have less than 60,000 miles on the vehicle, your best option is probably to take it to the dealer for warranty service.

If you're outside the warranty period, you can probably change the switch yourself.  Simply adjust the new switch so that the plunger sticks out about a millimeter when the pedal is not depressed.
