Question
Driving to a friends house about 1 hr. ago I noticed the check engine light suddenly came on. Went by Jiffy Lube and the code was p.m.(didn't have the book though to say what it meant. 77780 miles on it. Up to date with all items.Help!

Answer
Hi, Margaret.  The check engine lamp will come on to advise you that the engine control module (ECM) has recognized on of any number of problems.  There is no code "p.m.," however.  All trouble codes which can cause this vehicle's check engine lamp to come on will have the form Pxxxx where the x's represent numeric digits.

You might try going to the local auto parts chain; most will read the trouble code for no charge.  The most important part of this exercise is to get the actual code number from them, not what it means nor what they think the solution is.  Not only are most employees of parts stores not knowledgeable about the manner in which fuel management systems work, they're also frequently incorrect about what the code implies.  Simply follow-up here with the code number and I'll likely be able to assist you with the best course of action.
