Hyundai Repair: P1113 Intake Air Temp Circuit High Input, intake air temp, intake air temperature sensor

Question
I'm getting this error message on my 2003 Hyundai Elantra. I love this car and i've never had any problems with it and only had to replace tires, brakes and light bulbs in 215k miles.
This error kept me from getting my emissions. It seems to be a bad sensor, but could it be a bad reading from the sensor due to a problem with something else. I don't want to spend $75 bucks on a new sensor if the problem could be with a different part of engine. What's the most likely causes for this error message.
Thank you in advance for your time.

Answer
Hi, Jack.  I'm going to presume your trouble code is P0113 as it has the definition you've provided, and P1113 is not defined for this vehicle.

Unless you have a SULEV Elantra, which was typically only sold in the strictest of emissions areas, the intake air temperature sensor is part of the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor.  In nearly all the cases I've seen, the MAP sensor has been the cause of the issue.  The only other realistic issues for causing this code and not also a MAP code are an open circuit in the temp signal wire between the sensor and the ECM and an open circuit in the ECM itself.  My advice would be to look at what you can see of the harness and verify it has no physical damage, and if you see none, replace the MAP sensor.
