Hyundai Repair: 2002 Elantra- Covered under warranty - Radiator /Engine, hyundai dealer, warranty company

Question
Our car as 85K miles. On my way home from a successful emissions test, the temperature gauge suddenly went to high. I pulled off the highway, car died, and engine started smoking. Took it to mechanic who said that the radiator blew and it killed the engine. I've always kept up on basic maitenence. In fact, just had an oil change about a month ago. It'll cost more to fix the car than the car is worth. Is this something that would be covered under warranty?

Answer
If the radiator is the component that failed and caused the overheating, this repair is not covered under the factory warranty.  The factory warranty coverage on the radiator is 5 years/60,000 miles, whichever comes first.  If you purchased an additional warranty for the vehicle, it may cover these repairs, but you'll need to consult that warranty company (or your local Hyundai dealer if the purchased warranty is Hyundai Protection Plan) to find out if this is a covered repair under your particular plan.
