Hyundai Repair: cruise control, hyundai santa fe, cruise control module

Question
2005 hyundai santa fe. On holiday trip. switch would engage dash light 'cruise' 1st day, but today nothing happens. Thought might be fuse, but do not have schematic showing which is which. Best guess?

Answer
Hi, John.  Check fuse number four (right hand column, fourth up from bottom) in the dash fuse box.  This fuse provides power to the cruise switches.  Otherwise, if you have any other blown fuse causing your cruise control to not operate properly, you'll likely notice other symptoms first.

I'd recommend checking your brake lamps.  As you may already be aware, you have two regular brake lamps, one at either side, and an LED lamp in the rear window.  If both the outer brake lamps are out, the feedback from the LED lamp confuses the cruise control module regarding the brake switch circuit, and it will not engage the cruise control.

If the brake lamps are not the issue, the next most common issue is with the steering wheel switches.  If it is indeed the "cruise" lamp that's not coming on, check the on/off switch.  If it's the "set" lamp that won't illuminate, check the resume/accel/coast/set button assembly.
