Hyundai Repair: Loss of engine power, throttle position sensor, sensor tps

Question
I have a 2007 Santa Fe Limited, 3.3l engine.  Lately, when it sits in the hot sun and I start the engine, the check engine light goes on, the ESC light stays on, and I cannot go faster than 20-25 mph.  After stopping and starting the engine several times I get full accelerator power and the check engine light goes off eventually anfte about five restarts.  This problem does not show up when the car sits in the garage at home, only when it's in the hot sun for several hours.

Answer
The most freqent cause of this issue is a faulty throttle position sensor (TPS).  Hyundai has a technical service bulletin (TSB) about this issue which specifies that the TPS should be replaced and the engine control module (ECM) reprogrammed.  Keep in mind, however, that I have no way of verifying this is the issue with your Santa Fe without knowing the trouble codes which were stored.

If you have less than 60,000 miles on your Santa Fe, you should take it to the dealer immediately for service.  If you have more than 60,000 miles, you should take it to a shop which has the capability of reprogramming your engine control module with the latest update-- the dealer can do this; I'm not sure anyone else can-- and is good at driveability diagnostic work.
