Hyundai Repair: Hyundai 2004 Accent 1.6L engine hatchback, hyundai models, floor registers

Question
The air flow from the AC system in my car is not strong like it used to be. The air is cold but not coming out well even though it sounds like it always has. We looked for the air filter but did not find the one as shown in a diagram as being behind the glove box. It has been recharged and the man who did it said the system was working. Why is the air flow diminished?

Answer
Hi, Audrie.  Unlike many other Hyundai models, your Accent does not have a cabin air filter.

You seem to indicate that you hear the blower fan running at normal speed, so it's a reasonable conclusion that there's a blockage somewhere.  Every once in a while, I see a car where all the dash registers are shut.  Simply check the controls on each of the registers to be sure they operate correctly and that they aren't in position to close the registers.  If okay, then you may have a problem with one of the doors inside the heater box coming detached from the lever that controls it and blocking or restricting the air flow.

Another thing to consider is that the air may be coming out or registers other than the dash registers.  Check the defrost and floor registers to be sure it's not coming out there instead.  If it is, the cable between the heater control and the lever that controls where the air exits may be damaged or misadjusted.  I've seen this occur freqently after shops remove or replace the radio because the heater control must be pulled out to replace the radio and the shops do not know to disconnect the cables from the heater box.
