Hyundai Repair: 2003 Hyundai Sonata Keyless Entry, 2003 hyundai sonata, hyundai sonata

Question
Where is the alarm system control module located on a 2003 Hyundai Sonata? I bought mine used and the keyless entry is missing. I want to purchase one and program it but don't know where to locate the facia panel to access the alarm system.

Thanks.

Answer
The facia is the center panel of the dash that surrounds the radio and heater controls.  It should snap out of place, exposing the alarm module.

Your car in fact came with keyless entry from the factory, so you do not need to purchase an entire system, all you'll need is a remote.

As to whether you'll be able to program the remote yourself, I'm not sure.  At a certain point, the switch on the keyless/alarm module was deleted.  As I recall, if the switch is present, it'll be on the back side or other difficult position to access.  The cars I've programmed using the switch, I've typically pulled the cover off the module (as this was easier than unbolting the module) to get better access to the switch.

If you'd like a picture of the location of the module, I recommend registering for a free account at www.hmaservice.com.  In the ETM (Electrical Troubleshooting Manual) section, you can view the schematics for the vehicle's system.  Simply click on the blue link for the connector for the device you'd like to see, and another window will typically pop up with a diagram of the connector.  Once this window pops up, click on the "component" link in the new window, and it should display a picture of the component.
