Hyundai Repair: rear brake rotors on 2008 santa fe, phillips screws, parking brake cable

Question
QUESTION: i have got the rotor loose but cannot pull it off as e-brake shoes appear to be hanging it up. e brake is off so what can i do

ANSWER: It is rather abnormal for the parking brake shoes to be holding a drum of this type.  The rotors do have one or two #3 Phillips screws holding them to the wheel hub to hold them in place during assembly.  If you have not removed these screws, the rotor will not come off.

Most frequently, rotors that will not come loose are hung up on the hub itself.  If you're replacing the rotors, feel free to whack them several times with a 2 lb. or heavier hammer.  If you'll be reinstalling the same rotors, either use a brass or plastic-encased hammer.

If the rotor is indeed held up by the parking brake shoes, you can access the adjuster by removing the rubber plug in the rotor.  You can then turn the hole in front of the adjuster and adjust the parking brake shoes in.

QUESTION: thank you for the answer but i did all of above. rotor is loose from hub but shoes are holding it. i removed rubber plug but could not figure out how to loosen shoes. how is that done?

Answer
There should be an adjuster wheel at the bottom similar to a regular star wheel for drum brakes.  Turn the wheel to allow the shoes to come in.

If this doesn't prove successful, you may need to adjust the parking brake cable looser as well.  If you have the foot-operated parking brake, the adjustment will be under the center of the vehicle.  If you have the hand operated brake, the adjustment will be under the center console.
