Hyundai Repair: Transaxle range sensor, hyundai accent, fluid temperature

Question
Hello, I have a 1997 Hyundai accent GL with a 1.5 SOHC engine and I keep getting the code P0712 when the engine light comes on. Do I have to replace the transaxle range sensor or is it adjustable? If it is adjustable, how do I adjust it? Please let me know. Thanks.

Answer
P0712 indicates an open in the transmission fluid temperature circuit.  This is unrelated to the range switch, so I expect you'll neither need to replace nor adjust it.

In most cases when this trouble code arises on your vehicle, one or both of the wires in the harness attaching to the fluid temperature sensor connector are broken at the connector.  You can find this connector at the bottom of the transmission, in the front, and all the way on the left side of the vehicle.

If the wiring is intact, you'll probably need to replace the fluid temperature sensor.
