Hyundai Repair: check engine light code, purge valve, charcoal canister

Question
i have a 2005 hyundai accent 4 dr. -check engine light is still on code PO441- i had the charcol canister replaced and a "smoke" test done and also an emissions test done-nothing was found -why is it still on?

Answer
This code indicates that the engine control module believes there is fuel vapor being allowed into the engine even though the purge control valve (the valve which regulates fuel vapor flow) is not commanded open.  This code does not necessarily indicate a leak in the vapor management system.

I've never seen this code set for anything other than a stuck open purge control valve or a broken vacuum hose between the intake manifold and purge control valve.

The charcoal canister cannot cause this code since the flow is regulated by the purge control valve, which is between the canister and engine.  Similarly, a smoke test will not show a leak in either of the two cases I've mentioned, since in the case of a stuck open purge valve the smoke will go into the engine where it won't be seen, and in the case of the broken hose, the purge valve will properly block flow and the smoke won't leak out since the break will be on the other side of the purge valve from where the smoke is being applied.

Check the hose between the intake manifold and valve carefully for any breaks or splits.  If none are present, replace the purge control valve.
