Question
I just bought a 02 Hyundai Santa Fe and the check engine light came on. It was code P0449. EVAP Emission Control System Vent Vlv/Sol Malf   It has 121k miles and i just replaced the radiator, ac condenser and put new brakes and rotors.

Any ideas?

Answer
This diagnostic trouble code effectively means that the fuel tank is retaining vacuum (or the fuel tank pressure sensor is erroneously reporting vacuum).  This is most frequently due to a clogged canister filter but can also be caused by any of the following:

-- defective fuel tank pressure sensor
-- liquid fuel in charcoal canister
-- canister close valve stuck closed
-- kinked hose or line preventing fuel vapor system from venting through canister to fresh air
-- purge control valve stuck open.
