Hyundai Repair: RE: 2003Hyundai Accent, trouble code, follow ups

Question
Hi, I had too many follow ups....the check engine light comes on
at starting, but then goes out until next start up.  Drove yesterday in heat (90+), no starting problems, parked in shade
LOL chicken I was.

Answer
The fact that the check engine lamp comes on-- this presumably occurs when the problem happens as well-- is a good indicator that the ECM is functioning normally.  Although we cannot reach this conclusion with 100% certainty, it's a good idea to focus our efforts with other potential problems.

The fact that the lamp goes back out indicates that the ECM has yet to see the same fault on two consecutive self-tests.  It's possible, however, that a trouble code will still be stored.  If you can find a place to read your trouble codes for free (AutoZone, for example), do that first.  It's possible nothing will be stored, but this is an easy step, so it makes sense to do this prior to going to more difficult tasks.
