Hyundai Repair: 2007 Hyundai I30 - car wont start, using jumper cables, hyunai

Question
A few days ago I went to my car (2007 Hyunai I30) and the central locking would not open the doors and the car will not start. It is not even ticking over or making any noise. Just seems to be dead. Is it the battery, and should I use jumper leads to get it started?

Answer
The symptoms are consistent with a dead battery, especially if something was on that caused the battery to be drained.  If using jumper cables allows the car to start (or even enables the power locks or cause a ticking when attempting to start) the battery has almost certainly been drained.

The cause, on the other hand, is another matter.  The problem could simply be a defective battery, but could also be something left on (as mentioned above) or even a problem with something drawing current from the battery when the car is off (even though that shouldn't occur).

If using the jumper cables makes no change, you should suspect that the battery is not the issue and should check the battery cables and fuses.
