Hyundai Repair: Electrical Problems, 2005 hyundai elantra, hyundai elantra

Question
I have a 2005 Hyundai Elantra hatchback. About a year ago, one of the windows stopped working. A few months later, the power locks stopped locking (though if I lock them manually they power locks will unlock). Then two weeks ago another window stopped working. A few days ago, I was absentmindedly hitting buttons when the first window that stopped working went down - but won't come back up. (Both non-working windows are the back windows.)

Any idea what it will take to fix these issues? Thanks!

Answer
These are likely separate issues.  The locks have little to do with the windows, and the two windows developed problems at different times.

The power locks are set up to unlock automatically if the key is in the ignition and the driver's door is open.  If they are doing this at other times, you might start with checking the driver's door switch.

The problem with the windows could be mechanical or electrical.  You can begin with making electrical tests at the connector at the master switch.  To do this, you'll need a schematic.  You can view the schematics for your car at www.hmaservice.com.  Once you've registered for a free account, go to the ETM (Electrical Troubleshooting Manual) section.
