Hyundai Repair: Hyundai 2005 Sonata, wd 40, screwdriver

Question
I have a squeaking noise that is coming from the engine. It starts once I turn the engine over and keeps going. Any ideas?

Answer
Many squeaking noises originate from the drive belt(s).  To determine if this is the source of the noise, take a little WD-40 or similar lubricant and spray a little on the belt(s) while the engine is running.  If the noise goes away or changes when you do this, it is originating from the belt(s).

If the noise is not coming from the belt(s), you'll need to do some investigating to find the source.  A good way to do this is to take a long screwdriver and probe various components (such as water pump, alternator, etc.) while placing your ear on the other end of the screwdriver.  The closer you are to the noise, the louder and clearer it will be through the screwdriver.
