Hyundai Repair: valve lifter noise, mile powertrain warranty, valve lifters

Question
I have a 2003 6cyl. Sonata that is making valve lifter noises. I was told that it is very expensive to stop the noise because the engine must be opened to adjust the lifters. Mileage is 48,000. Will the warranty cover this cost?,

Answer
Your valve lifters are hydraulic and cannot be adjusted.  If you're the original owner, the warranty will potentially cover the cost as the 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty is still in effect.  Whether the repair will be covered depends on what the failure is and whether it has occurred because of failure to properly maintain the vehicle.  Once a determination made as to the cause of the lifter noise, the dealer or I can tell you whether your warranty will cover the repair.
