Hyundai Repair: power outlet in 2010 Santa Fe, professional mechanic, electrical devices

Question
Hi,

I have owned my new 2010 Santa Fe for less than a week. Today, while my phone was charging, the power outlet in the front console stopped working. For all I can tell, the power outlet in the center console and in the rear are still working just fine. Is this an easy fix - something I can do myself? Or do I need to have a professional mechanic take a look?

Thanks.

Answer
The power outlet in the rear of the console is on the same fuse as the power outlet (not the lighter socket) in the front of the console.  So if that one isn't working as well, you probably just need to replace the fuse.

In addition, you should probably consider that there may be an issue with your phone charger.  If it causes the fuse to blow, there may be a short in it.

If the problem is with the lighter socket, that fuse could be blown as well.  In this case, try using the charger in a power outlet and see if the results change.  The lighter socket has additional tabs in it which can make unintentional contact with electrical devices other than the lighter element, causing the fuse to blow.
