Hyundai Repair: Hyundai Transmission PRND shifter, 2002 hyundai xg350, hyundai xg350

Question
This concerns 2002 Hyundai XG350 automatic transmission. The shift selector is very stiff to shift into various positions, i.e., drive, reverse, etc.when first starting car. This happens occasionally, mostly after parking and starting car the following morning. Then problem seems to clear up for the remainder od day. It may not occur again till several days later, after driving trouble free.
Answer:
If this issue occurs between any two gears, it's likely caused by a sticky substance on the slider in the PRND indicator.  You can try cleaning with Spray Nine, Fantastic, or a similar cleaner, applying a light lubricant if necessary.  If this doesn't work, you'll probably need to replace the indicator.

HT.  This answer may be the cause to my stiff shifter problem, although it is a somewhat intermittent occurrence. How do I remove the faceplate of the PNRD shift assembly on my 2002 Hyundai XG350, to access the slider?

Answer
The slider is part of the PRND indicator assembly.  The assembly wasn't made in a manner to be taken apart, so if you attempt to do this, be very careful.

What you might try is to pry up the the console trim around the shifter; it just snaps out of place.  This will enable you to see the whole indicator assembly and you can perhaps clean different areas by moving the shifter around to various positions.

If you decide you need to remove the indicator, you'll need to remove the shift knob to get it off the lever.  To do this, pry the button out of the top of the shifter and remove the spring and spacer.  Then, remove the nut holding the shifter knob in place.  You should now be able to detach and remove the PRND indicator assembly.
