Have rough running, poor mpg 01 Santa Fe V6 2wd reads dtc U0000 and P1000 - network problem and not running diagnostics. Any diy suggestions on how to track down problem?

Hi, DJ.  Most likely, there's a communication issue between this particular scan tool (or code reader) and the vehicle.  P1000 is a code not used by Hyundai on this vehicle, and U0000 in an impossible code as it refers to a communication network issue, but no such communication network exists on your vehicle.

You'll need to use a different scan tool or code reader that will properly communicate with the vehicle.
