Hyundai Repair: Hyundai Tucson 4WD rear wheel bearing replacement, wheel bearing replacement, wheel hub

Question
I've been trying to remove the rear wheel hub from the carrier to replace the bearings. I cant see anything keeping the hub from coming free after i removed the castellated nut. I have tried a slide hammer. Are there any other devices that I may not have removed?

Answer
Hi, Damien.  I apologize for taking so long to get back to you.  I've never done this job and was attempting rather unsuccessfully to find information on it.  The service manual doesn't show how to remove the hub on the 4WD model, and I've been unable to connect to the online parts catalog to see a diagram of the separate parts.  The information below is based on the assumption that the hub bearing is pressed into the rear knuckle and that the hub is pressed into the bearing, which seems to be the case from the limited material I've been able to find.

You'll need a sizeable slide hammer (~10 Lb.) to be able to remove the hub with this method.  Even then, I've seen some press-in hubs that didn't want to come apart in this manner.  If you have a two- or three-armed puller that you can put on the wheel hub with the center screw on the axle, this may work better.  Additionally, since the bearing is pressed into the knuckle, you can simply remove the entire knuckle and hammer or press the hub out from the rear.  You'll need a hydraulic press anyway to remove the bearing from the knuckle.
