Hyundai Repair: etacs module, dome lamp, door switch

Question
QUESTION: While installing a monitor in my 2003 santa fe, I failed to disconnect power from the battery. I shorted the contacts for the activation of the dome light by the opening of the door. This short also affected the ABS indicator on the Dash, it now stays on. Do you think it could be the ETACS module or ?????
         Thanks Ramon

ANSWER: I don't fully understand your symptoms, Ramon.  Do you mean that the dome lamp won't come on now?  Is there some other issue with the dome lamp or other component?  How do you believe this occurred?  Were the door switch contacts shorted to each other or to the body of the vehicle?  In any case, it's doubtful you've damaged the ETACS module.  Nor should any of this have anything to do with your ABS lamp.  Start by checking your fuses, both inside the vehicle and underhood.  Replace any that are blown.

And, if you need additional assistance, do follow up with additional information about your symptoms.

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick reply. By dropping a washer on the live circuit that powered the dome lamp it is now not working, I have checked all the fuses under the dash. This is the circuit that is activated by opening the door.
The only other problem I see is that the ABS indicater on the dash is now always on. I will also check the fuses under the hood.
P.S. The reason I thought the ETACS module might be defective is because both problems according to wiring diagrams lead to it.
         Thanks

ANSWER: The ETACS doesn't have anything to do with the ABS circuit, so that cannot be the problem with the ABS.  Additionally, if you cannot turn on the dome lamp with the switch on the lamp, you've just determined that the problem with that isn't in the ETACS either, since putting the switch in the on position bypasses the ETACS module.

Did you remove the power connector (a small black connector) when checking the fuses?  If so, you may have installed it upside down.  This connector is designed as a quick way for power to be removed from noncritical items that may discharge the battery over a long period of time.  The connector is placed in upside down at the factory, and when the dealer receives and inspects the vehicle, it is reversed the other direction, making contact with power circuits for the dome lamp, among other things.

Most likely, what you've done here is short circuits to the body of the vehicle.  This will typically cause one or more fuses to blow, but not any sort of expensive electronic damage.

QUESTION: Sorry, forgot to mention that the Dome light works in the switched on mode, but not with the door dimming circuit when the door is opened.

Answer
This is, then, sounding more and more like the problem is in the ETACM.

I don't fully understand where the washer was dropped and what two wires (or terminals) it shorted.  If you can explain this to me, I'll be better able to determine what the damage may be.  Still, I don't see any evidence that this would have anything to do with the ABS.  I'd also recommend double- and even triple-checking the fuses, both inside and under the hood.
