Hyundai Repair: engine speed sensor, crankshaft sensor, shaft speed

Question
friend of mine has a 98 accent. she was stuck in a mall so i towed her over to sears - not my first choice but closest- anyway it was throwing out code PO727, they replaced the crankshaft sensor so she was able to drive away but its not shifting (automatic) sears said it was the engine speed sensor in the tranny but they couldn't fix it does anybody know the correct name for this part pls and thanks ED

Answer
Hi, Ed.  Hyundai doesn't use a code P0727 for this vehicle.  My guess is that you've either mistyped or miscopied the trouble code.

As for the sensor, you're probably talking about one of the pulse generators.  One measures transmission input shaft speed, and the other measures transmission output shaft speed.  These pulse generators are serviced together; you won't be able to replace just one.
