Hyundai Repair: Reving RPMs & burning rubber smell., throttle position sensor, hyundai accent

Question
Hello,
I have a 2003 Hyundai accent with 107,000 miles on it. Yesterday when I was driving it the rpm's wouldn't come down and there was a burning rubber smell. When I parked it %26 turned it off, then back on the rpm's were ok but still a very strong smell. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
The burning odor and the high rpm's suggest that the transmission or clutch may be slipping.  It's also possible that high RPM could be caused by a faulty throttle position sensor, a faulty idle actuator, or a vacuum leak.

If you can answer the questions below, it'll help me better analyze what may be occurring:
-- Is the vehicle equipped with a manual or automatic transmission?
-- Are the rpms high only when idling, only when the accelerator pedal is depressed, or both?
-- Does the vehicle seem to have the normal amount of power?
