Hyundai Repair: 2001 Hyundai Accent front left drivers side head light ., headlamp bulb, hyundai accent

Question
The drivers side headlight was inoperative.  I changed the bulb.  The light bulb I put in is very dull unlike the passenger side bulb which is very bright.Thankyou.

Answer
Presuming the lamp was working properly before replacement, it's likely that the bulb isn't installed correctly.  If it's not held in place properly, it won't be positioned correctly for the reflector to focus the light, making it appear dim.

There should be notches in place in the headlamp into which the tabs on the bulb must be inserted.  Once inserted properly, it should be possible for the clip in the rear of the headlamp to hold the bulb securely in place.

You might also check the headlamp fuses in the underhood fuse box.  If one of the fuses is blown, a headlamp bulb will light very dimly under certain conditions.  If the fuse is indeed blown, you should check to make sure there the clip holding the bulb in place in the headlamp isn't touching any part of the metal base or contacts of the bulb.

If the bulb is correctly installed and the fuses are not blown, it's possible there's an electrical problem or you have a defective bulb, but these causes are unlikely.  If you're sure the bulb is installed correctly, follow up and I'll advise on how to check the bulb circuits to see if they're working properly.
