Hyundai Repair: metal on metal sound, hyundai tiburon, wheel bearing

Question
I have a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon i recently replaced the front right wheel bearing and now there is a metal on metal type sound when i turn left. I have checked everything that I had apart and everything is tight and back to the way it was. Please help.

Answer
Sometimes, the backing plate gets deformed during servicing of the bearing, causing it to rub the rotor slightly during reassembly.  This will typically make a light scraping noise, sometimes exactly under the conditions you describe.  If this is causing your noise, simply bend the offending area of the backing plate a little bit away from the rotor.

If this is a deeper noise, it's possible the knuckle was bent during servicing, causing it to rub the rotor.  In this case, you'll probably need to replace the knuckle.

In either scenario, you'll be looking for an area where you can see evidence of scraping or where components are so close to the rotor that it's hard to tell there's any space in between.
