Hyundai Repair: wiper arm gear, snow accumulation, wiper arms

Question
How do you change the arm gear on a wiper arm gear on a 02 sanata it won,t move but the right one does , i ,m pretty sure it is stripped or do i have to change the wiper motor

Answer
There is no wiper gear-- the mechanical system is consists of three basic components:
1.  The arms/blades
2.  The linkage
3.  The motor.

The most frequent problem causing one or both wipers to not move is that one or both nuts attaching the wiper arms to the pivot portion of the linkage has come loose.  Attempting to use the wipers when obstructed from moving can cause this to occur.  This problem is more frequent in the winter due to snow accumulation and wipers being frozen to the windshield.  To check for this, simply check the nuts at the wiper arm pivot points with a 14mm wrench to see whether they're loose.

If the nuts are not loose, you'll need to remove the nuts and the wiper arms to enable you to remove the windshield cowling to access the wiper linkage.  The linkage consists of two pivots and two arms linking the pivots to the each other and the wiper motor.  It's possible that one of the links has come loose from a pivot.  In this case, you may be able to simply snap it back into place.

Since one of your wipers is working, we know the wiper motor is okay.
