ANSWER: The conditions you describe indicate the transmission is in failsafe.  To determine why, you'll need to find a mechanic capable of reading the diagnostic trouble codes or purchase a code reader yourself.  For this particular issue, the code reader must be capable of reading the diagnostic trouble codes from the transmission as well as the engine.

The vast majority of issues causing failsafe on this vehicle are with either the input or output speed sensor.  If you cannot read the codes or it's impractical or not cost efficient to do so, you might try replacing the input and output speed sensors to see if that fixes the issue.

QUESTION:  thank u for answering the question on hyundai xg 300.pls where are the trasmision output or input speed sensor located in the car,or what other name is it called.

ANSWER: The input and output speed sensors are mounted in the top of the transmission, each with a 10mm bolt.

The input speed sensor is located under the bracket attaching the shift cable to the transmission.  To replace it, you'll need to remove the air cleaner housing and then remove the two 12mm bolts holding the cable bracket to the top of the transmission.

The output speed sensor is located farther rearward and farther away from the engine.  It looks very similar to the input speed sensor.  You'll most likely need to remove the air cleaner housing to replace this as well.

QUESTION: thank very much for the wondeful job you are doing att allexperts ,pls ckeep it up .can u help me get an average price of the speed sensors in dollar and how i can place order for them

Answer
They are available from Hyundai dealers in the U.S.  Price will vary from dealer to dealer, but you might expect as much as $100 U.S. each.

If you want to give this a try, you'll want the following part numbers:

Input speed sensor: 42620-39051
Output speed sensor: 42621-39052.

I'd suggest attempting to source them locally prior to purchasing elsewhere.
