Question
The flasher/indicator lights on my car only work intermittently. Can you advise if it needs to be checked by professionals or can it be a D.I.Y. job. Also losing transmission oil any advice on both problems would be gratefully received.

Answer
It can be a DIY, just depends on what is causing the problem. First thing to check would be your fuses. Be sure that they are secure and not loose at all. Next thing to check would be the bulbs. In some vehicles, the two bulbs are linked together with one power line, therefore if one bulb goes out, then the other will as well. If yours is assembled this way, then if a bulb is going faulty, it could cause problems for both. After the bulbs, check the hazard button on your vehicle. There is a clip that plugs into that hazard switch usually located on your dash somewhere, whether in your middle console section or on the steering column. If that clip comes loose, your connection could be faulty there as well. Last thing to try would be to see if there are in cuts in the wire that are rubbing on metal surfaces or if there is a loose wire. If you are unable to find anything that is loose, please write back and let me know.

As far as the leaking transmission fluid goes, it is best to check your lines and gaskets before you decide to move into the larger items. Be sure that the hoses are still secure and are not split anywhere. If they are, you will notice a fluid somewhere, so basically keep your eyes open and run your hands along each one until you feel a moist spot. also check any gaskets that are on your transmission and see once again if you feel any moist places. The leading cause of leaking transmission fluid is either the hoses or gaskets. Once again, if you cannot find anything, please let me know and we will proceed from there.

I hope you are able to find what you are looking for and fix the problem quick and easy. If you need to, you can write me back and I would gladly do my best to help you.
