Hyundai Repair: 2003 Hyundai Sonata Fluid Flushes, 2003, Hyundai

Question
My car has almost 90,000 miles on it.  I just got the timing belts/water pump replaced and am having a tuneup in a few weeks.  I looked in the manual to try and figure out what else I need because the mechanic (and I have been going to this place for about 10 years so I trust them but I don't know if it's overkill) is suggesting a power steering flush, fuel induction, throttle body service, brake system flush.  He suggested a coolant flush and a transmission flush and it appears from the maintenance schedule I do need these but what about the other fluids? I don't even know what some of them are and it does add up to alot of money.  Any advice would be appreciated

Answer
Typically, the items that were mentioned are items that are often overlooked in routine maintenance. I always suggest doing them, but they are not necessarily going to cause your vehicle to break down if it is not taken care of. Definitely have the coolant and the transmission flushed. The power steering fluid is not so necessary in my opinion, and usually you will notice your brakes acting up if the fluid for those needs to be flushed. As far as the fuel induction goes, occasionally fuel sediment can build up and cause an issue with your system. To be honest, if you take care of your fuel filter, that will eliminate most of the problems that could be caused there, which, it is probably about time to replace that as well because those are typically every 60,000-100,000 miles. The only reason to have the throttle serviced is if there is a lot of build up from carbon and debris.

Frankly, you will probably be safe with a typical transmission and coolant flushing, but I recommend having your fuel filter replaced as well. The other items are usually overlooked, and don't typically cause much of a problem. I would never recommend you to avoid doing this routine maintenance, but if money is a issue, then just stick with the basics.

I hope that this was able to help you out a bit in making your decision. I am sure everything will work out for you. If there is anything else that I can help you with, just let me know and I will gladly do my best.
