Hyundai Repair: Timing Belt 2002 Elantra, Timing, Belt

Question
Is it true that you have to replace the timing belt at around 100,000 miles?  A friend told me that they heard this.  I currently have 118,000 miles and am getting a bit nervous!

Answer
The owner's manual to your vehicle will have an exact mileage at when the timing belt should be replaced, but to be honest, most recommend it to be replaced before 100,000 miles. The most I have seen on a recommendation is 105,000, so you may want to replace it. It is just like everything else on your car, it does experience normal wear and tear, but it is nothing to be too concerned about. I would just take care of it sometime soon is all and be sure to check the manual to see when your normal maintenance should be done on all aspects of your vehicle.

I hope this answers your question, and as I said, don't stress yourself over it.
