Hyundai Repair: Hyundai Atoz Semi Auto, hyundai atoz, shade tree mechanic

I have an S Reg Hyundai Atoz with 34500 miles on the clock. It makes a grinding sound when I put it in first and gently press down on the accelerator. I've checked this and it does it repeatedly. The grinding also continues in other gears, though it is intermittent. It also makes a similar sound when it is not in gear and I turn the engine off. I wondered what are the possible causes of the grinding, and how best to investigate?

Sorry i cannot help you.  I signed on this website as an auto paint expert and do not know why i keep getting mechanic questions.  I only trust dealership mechanics on hyundai and that is not very much because they tend to run up the bill.  However they guarentee their work, not like shade tree mechanic who you may have to track down later with a private detective and sometimes even to no avail.  Joe
