Hyundai Repair: Timing belt replacement, 2003 hyundai sonata, timing belt replacement

Question
Is replacing a Timing Belt a scheduled maintenance item on a 2003 Hyundai Sonata or, how often should I expect to replace it?

Answer
Hi Pat,
Sorry i do not know.  I signed on this website as an auto paint expert and do not know why i keep getting mechanic questions.  I do know that i paid for a timing belt replacement on my '97 Tiburon at the dealership and it cost me $450.00.  Milage was 100K.  It was due, the belts had cracks in them and if belt goes out when driving down the road they told me it would proablby junk the whole engine.
Does your belt have cracks?  Sometimes it costs $90.00 to find answer to that question but will be applied towards job, if you get them to do it, and you ask nicely but assertively. You can shop around till you find a dealer who will give you that deal.  i would not trust any fly by night mechanic to do such a job...but dealer guarentees.  Fly-by-night may guarentee but you may have to search for him later in Galveston or Nebraska to get him to repair his mess up.
