Hyundai Repair: 2002 Elantra overheating, hyundai elantra, temp gauge

Question
We have a 2002 Hyundai elantra and while my girlfriend was on the freeway, she noticed the temp gauge had hit maximum.  She pulled off and took it to the closest repair shop (a midas) and the radiator had actually cracked on the upper part.  They replaced the radiator and thermostat, but upon driving home, the engine seemed to still be running really hot and it actually died. We are going to take it back to them, but was wondering A) is it simply a faulty job done by midas or B) is there another problem underlying the overheating, and if so why didn't they diagnose this in the first place.  On top of those questions, since we are just outside of our warranty (62000 miles as second owners), is this shop liable because they let us drive it without correctly fixing/diagnosing the problem.  We can't afford to replace the engine!!!  Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Answer
Hello Michael,
A- It looks like they did not test drive the vehicle properly to make sure it is running fine.
B- Yes, there might be another problem causing overheat and even thermostat to go bad. That is why test driving the vehicle after each repair is so important to confirm repair has fixed the problem.
C- Is the shop liable? This is a tough question. I do not know the whole story so it is really hard for me to answer that question.I hope they take this problem seriously and proffesionally.
