Hyundai Repair: 2001Hyundai Elantra 1600 starting problem, hyundai elantra, check valve

Question
My Hyundai Elantra starts more often than not, every so often I have to crank the key 5-6 times for it to fire and it turns but sometimes wont start, I have reconditioned the starter motor and changed HT leads as well, why does this issue persist 1 a week.

Answer
Hello Donovan,
It sounds like your fuel pressure check valve which is located inside the fuel pump is giving up. Engine needs pressured fuel inside the delivery pipe in order to start right away. If the check valve leaks, that means the pressure will decrease and fuel pump will need to work a little longer to build that pressure up. I reccommend you to have your fuel pump checked.
