Hyundai Repair: lights on rear are permenatley on?? and break lights wont come on, hyundia elantra, brake switch

Question
Today I parked and I got out of my hyundia elantra gls 2001 and locked it like normal there was no problems. Tonight I walk up to my car and the rear lights(the red lights when you turn on lights for driving at night) are on. They wont shut off and the break lights dont come on when I use the breaks? We ( my wife and I) had a baby boy on the 24th of july! she is scheduled to be released thurs. or friday and this happened just tonight. Please Sir- can you tell me what my vehicle is doing?. I had to un plug the lights from within the trunk and the middle light in the rear window for fear of losing power to my battery. I checked the fuses in the box and all looks good. This is very perplexing and unsafe for my newborn son. Please contact me or shoot a link at my email to find the answer to this enigma?!

Answer
Hello James,
Your brake lights are on not your tail lights. I think the problem is your brake switch. It is located on top of the brake pedal. Either it is loose or switch it self stuck. Also sometimes bracket on the brake pedal which pushes on the switch to turn the brake lights off bents and even when the brake pedal is depressed , can not push on the switch and causes the brake lights to stay on. If switch is loose, adjust it and tighten. If bracket is bent , rebent it back. Otherwise, replace the switch itself.
Congratulations on your baby boy!
