Question
QUESTION: hi i had fault code p0715 input turbine speed sensor came up and had this part replaced, check lamp was out, drove for about 100 miles then check came on again but still got all gears which i did not have before sensor was replaced any ideas now regards Neil

ANSWER: If your transmission didn't go into 3rd gear (and stay there until the engine was restarted), you have a different problem.  Recheck to see what trouble codes are currently present, and follow up if necessary.  If necessary to follow up, please also provide the year and model of your car.  I'm presuming you replaced the input speed sensor.

As you may be able to ascertain from the lack of speediness of this response, I'm having difficulties addressing questions in a reasonable amount of time.  Since I feel I won't be able to ensure I'm meeting the needs of questioners properly, I plan on either going on indefinite vacation or delisting myself in the near future.  If there are no experts accepting questions when you need further information, you might try a discussion board such as www.talkaboutautos.com ro www.autoboardz.com.

QUESTION: hi again yes it was input speed sensor replaced but fault code still showing it at fault vehicle is a hyundai trajet people carrier 2.0 gsi automatic manufactured in 2000

Answer
The following presumes that code P0715 returned.

Since I have no experience with or information on the Trajet, I'm not certain which transmission it has.  Since every instance I've ever seen of P0715 has been a problem with the input speed sensor itself, I'd say the first thing to do is go back and check to make sure everything was replaced and reassembled properly.

1.  Verify the sensor is plugged in securely.  Sometimes the lock tab on the connector breaks.  Usually, when this happens, twisting the terminals in the sensor a little bit usually provides enough tension that the connector will stay on.
2.  Verify the sensor is bolted down securely.  If it's loose or not fully installed, it won't work properly.
3.  Verify you've replaced the proper sensor.  The input and output speed sensor are very similar in appearance.  On U.S. vehicles, the input speed sensor is near the center of the top of the transmission and is partially underneath the bracket attaching the shift cable to the transmission.

If all the above checks okay, then you'll probably need to start checking the wire harness to verify the sensor has proper power and ground and that the signal wire is not open or shorted.
