Hyundai Repair: Hyundai Excel 1990 Clutch problem, clutch master cylinder, clutch release

Question
Hi There,

I have a 1990 Hyundai Excel and the clutch has been fairly loose for a while and now I sometimes need to pump the clutch a few times before I can find a gear. Hydraulics? Any ideas where to look exactly for the problem?

Thanks,
Hamish

Answer
Start by checking the fluid in your clutch master cylinder.  If low, you'll need to look for and find the leak.  The most common points of leakage are the clutch master cylinder and the clutch release cylinder.  If no leakage is evident after inspecting both, pull the boot back on the release cylinder to make sure the fluid isn't leaking into the boot, and also check the area where the pushrod for the master cylinder enters the inside of the car.
