Hyundai Repair: hold light, hyundai elantra, elantra

Question
I have a Hyundai Elantra, 2004.  On the dashboard, upper right side, a light
appeared today.  It said "hold".  I've read the manual and find any such light
listed.  What is it for?

Answer
I wasn't aware of any such "hold" lamp, so I checked the cluster of a 2004 Elantra that was at the dealer for service.  There is indeed a place in the upper right corner of the cluster that can display "hold."  This lamp isn't intended to be used in the U.S., however, and I'm sure that's why there is no mention of it in your owner's manual.  I have seen other brands that have a switch that will limit how the transmission can shift and designate this limitation with a lamp that indeed says "hold."  Most likely, there's a problem with the electronics of your instrument cluster.  I'd recommend taking the vehicle to the dealer to have it checked.
