Hyundai Repair: 2002 Hyundai accent charcoal canister, charcoal canister, hyundai accent

Question
The local dealer said that the charcoal canister has become corrupt by over filling the tank and needs to be replaced. Thee are frequent kick-offs of the pump when trying to fuel the car. Where is the canister located and how difficult is it to replace? I had an unpleasant experience with our local dealer a couple of years back and prefer to not use their services.

Answer
The charcoal canister is located at the left rear corner underneath the vehicle.

The problem you report can require significant diagnosis to find the source of the problem.  It can be a blockage anywhere in the path between the fuel tank, through the charcoal canister, to the atmosphere.  Although the charcoal canister is frequently the cause, a plugged or restricted cansiter filter is also common.
