Hyundai Repair: Deisel sound on 03 Tiburon 4 cyl, throwout bearing, clutch pedal

Question
I have banged my head for some time trying to find out what the deisel sound is in my car.  Finally, someone else had the same problem.  they say it is that the throw out bearing was shot.  Can you just replace the bearing, or do you have to replace the whole clutch?  I had a new clutch put in aftermarket in October 06.  Also, is there any impact on the transmission?

Answer
The bearing can be replaced separately, but it can be difficult to separate from the pressure plate, and you'll need to remove the transmission to access it.  I've also never heard of a throwout bearing making a diesel type noise.  If the problem is indeed with your throwout bearing, the noise should change when you depress the clutch pedal.

Because of your description of a diesel sound, I'd primarily suspect the timing chain guide.  Under your valve cover is a timing chain joining the two camshafts.  If the timing chain wears too much, it'll begin slapping the guide, making a noise that sounds something like a diesel.
