Hyundai Repair: EVAP CODE, evaporative emissions, fuel cap

Question
I have a 2000 Elantra took it to Auto Zone because of check engine light on and they said it was an EVAP code. However they did not tell me the actual number of the code. Is an EVAP code an EVAP code or are there numerous codes it could be.
Thanks,
Chris

Answer
Unfortunately, there are a number of different evaporative emissions codes.  Some have to do with leakage and the size of the leak.  If your lamp wasn't cleared, go ahead and clear it by disconnecting the battery for five seconds.  Then make sure your fuel cap is properly and is sealed.

Your issue could have been a loose or poorly seated fuel cap.  If you didn't fix the problem, the lamp will probably be back in a few days.  You can have the code read again at that time.  But I'll need the actual code number to be of the most assistance.
