Question
QUESTION: since having my elantra tested there is a continuous bleep which i would like to disable

ANSWER: Hi, Freda.  I'll probably need a few more details to figure out exactly what is occurring here and provide you with some good advice.

1.  What year is your Elantra?
2.  Is the door ajar indicator on the dash illuminated when you hear the "bleep?"
3.  If not, are any other warning indicators abnormally on?

QUESTION: 1. my car was bought in England, it was registered in 2000. hyundai elantra.the door ajar indicator flashes when i hear the bleep, its driving me mad, how can i disable it?

Answer
The fact that your door ajar lamp comes on and the bleep occur at the same time indicates that the problem is with the driver's door.  Check to make sure the three screws holding the door latch to the door are secure.  Also check the door switch (on the pillar between the front and rear doors) operates smoothly.  It should push in and out smoothly and not be broken.  When extended, your door ajar lamp should be on.  When pushed in, the door ajar lamp should be out.  Most likely, your driver's door isn't pushing the switch's plunger in far enough.  You may need to adjust the door striker (the u-shaped metal rod that the latch grabs) inward or adjust the door bottom itself inward.

You could unplug the chime, but that won't solve all your problems.  Your door ajar lamp and dome lamp could still come on, possibly running your battery down when you're away from the car.  If my information is correct, the year 2000 is right around the time Elantra models changed in England.  For me to be sure where your chime is located, I'll need you to give me your VIN so I can figure out whether you have the RD or XD (Hyundai's chassis designations) Elantra.  If you'd like me to give you the location of the chime, please follow up with your VIN.  Also, presuming your car is right hand drive, the chime may be in a similar position in the car on the opposite side from where I describe.  Let the location of the source of the noise guide you.
