hi, just wondering if you know where i can get my hands on a schematic diagram of the ecu on a 1998 hyundai excel x3?

You can view schematics of all Hyundai models marketed in the U.S. at www.hmaservice.com (requires Internet Explorer).  Simply go to the site and register for a free account.  When you've logged in, go to the ETM (Electrical Troubleshooting Manual) section.

Of course, since you don't have a U.S. spec. vehicle, you'll need to realize that everything will not be exactly the same.  Most items, however will be similar in their wiring and operation.  On the hmaservice website, select 1998 Accent as your vehicle.
