Hyundai Repair: Parking Brake and Battery Light, local auto, brake fluid

Question
Hello,

The Parking Brake light and the battery light are on and i cannot figure out why. I took my wife’s battery into the local auto parts store to get them to test it. The lady said that the battery had voltage but no amps so i bought a new battery and put it in. Im guessing that i didn’t tighten the positive terminal enough because the car was dieing yesterday so i took it back up there. When the brought the test out the terminal was loose he asked me when i bought the battery and i told him the day before. He said having a loose terminal will drain the battery put usually not that quickly. Anyway they replaced the battery and the battery light is still on?? Also the E-Brake light is on as well. I have checked the brake fluid it is good. The brakes are working well. Is there any other reason this might happen. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi, Mark.  I'm sorry it's been so long for you to receive an answer.  It appears that a previous expert left and the questions he didn't answer were simply dumped into the system.  I didn't check here very frequently because the questions all appeared to be at least six months old.  If you are still having the issue and need more information than I've provided, please follow-up with me.

Since this question has been in the queue for almost a month now, I suspect you have your problem resolved, but here's some information anyway.  The battery lamp is controlled by your alternator.  Specifically, it's turned on when the voltage regulator determines that the alternator is not charging.  Because of the nature of the system that turns on the lamp, the only possibilities are that the alternator is not turning, the alternator is defective, or the wire leading to the battery lamp is shorted to ground (very rare).  The brake lamp comes on at the same time because of the cluster's circuitry that causes the brake lamp to come on when the key is turned to the "on" position without the engine running.
